Description of Program
Global Family Medicine Pathway, available to family medicine residents in the University of Minnesota Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, Mankato Family Medicine Residency Program.
Location(s) of international program: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Russia, India, Honduras and Nicaragua

- Asia (Russia and India)
- Central America (Honduras and Nicaragua)

Description of didactics: Comprehensive curriculum integrated throughout the three years of the residency including online web modules and lectures, journal club, book club, movie night and tropical medicine lecture series:

Pathway residents able to participate in the Tropical Medicine Course: http://www.globalhealth.umn.edu/onlinetrainingglobalhealth/index.html
GFM Pathway collaborates with Global Pediatrics, Global Health (Internal Medicine) and the School of Public Health.
Cost to individual resident: Travel, room and board costs minus a stipend if resident completes pathway curriculum and project.
Number of residents who have participated in the last two years: Program started 2011
Description of faculty involvement: Faculty with international experience at each participating residency site who have nurtured long-term relationships with a variety of communities around the world. Pathway residents will chose a faculty mentor. International experiences may or may not occur with UMN faculty.
Does the program accept medical students for trips? Some faculty-led trips are open to medical students.
Does the program accept residents from outside the program for trips? No.
Approximate time of year/duration of trips: Residents can do a one-month rotation during their second and/or third year of residency.
