Telemedicine

American Telemedicine Association (ATA) -- The American Telemedicine Association is a non-profit association promoting greater access to medical care via telecommunications technology. It promotes professional, ethical, and equitable improvement in health care delivery through the application of telecommunications technology. Some of ATA's activities include assisting in the development of telemedical policy and standards; providing educational materials to public and professional organizations; and supporting local health care system initiatives in telemedicine, especially in medically underserved areas.

Distance Learning and Telemedicine -- Rural Utilities Service (RUS) telecommunications lending creates public-private partnerships to finance the construction of the telecommunications infrastructure in rural America. RUS is a vital source of financing and technical assistance for rural telecommunication systems.

Office for Advancement of Telehealth (OAT) -- The Department of Health and Human services created OAT to promote the wider adoption of effective telecommunications and information technologies in providing health care services to the nation's underserved people.

Rural Health Care Division (RHCD) -- The Rural Health Care Corporation (RHCC) and Schools and Libraries Corporation (SLC) merged with the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC). RHCC and SLC became divisions of USAC with new names -- the Rural Health Care Division (RHCS) and the Schools and Libraries division (SLD.) The RHCC offers rural health care providers and telecommunications carriers the opportunity to learn about the RHCD program.

Telehealth Discussion Paper -- This paper from the AAFP's Rural Health Exchange offers a definition of telehealth, a list of technologies appropriate for telehealth, a discussion of the types of telehealth applications, and information on telehealth reimbursement policies.

Telemedicine Information Exchange (TIE) -- TIE is a comprehensive, international resource for information about telemedicine and telemedicine-related activities. Information includes a searchable databases of telemedicine literature, active telemedicine programs, meetings, funding, and journals.
