Family Physician of the Year

This award recognizes a physician member who is directly and effectively involved in community affairs and activities that enhance the quality of life of the community. Process and Timing:

Call for entries are solicited in the fall/winter. Top five finalists are determined by a panel consisting of the immediate past chair of the Commission on Membership and Member Services; current member of the Commission on Membership and Member Services Executive Committee and the current Family Physician of the Year. Final determination is made by a panel of outside judges.

When the Family Physician of the Year Award is approved for presentation, the AAFP Public Relations Department will:
  • coordinate media training
  • prepare a script to be used at award presentation
  • prepare news release for distribution in recipient's hometown newspaper
The AAFP Staff Award Coordinator will:
  • order award (Waterford vase)
  • coordinate travel arrangements
