Award of Merit

Created: 1975, Revised: 1994

This award recognizes people who have been deemed by the Board to have contributed, in a distinguished manner, toward advancement of family medicine. It commends exceptional individual effort. Not restricted to members or physicians. This is the preferred recognition for Chapter and Academy staff. Process and timing

Recommendations for this award are made via the normal Board recommendation process. Recommendations must allow adequate time for the Board to make their decision.

When an Award of Merit is approved for presentation, the Staff Award Coordinator will:
  • prepare the congratulatory letter to the recipient over Executive Vice President's signature with copy of letter to EVP Executive Assistant
  • coordinate travel arrangements
  • order award (framed certificate)
The AAFP Public Relations Staff will:
  • prepare news script to be used at award presentation
  • prepared news release for distribution in recipient's hometown newspaper
