Thomas W. Johnson Award for Career Contributions to Family Medicine Education

Created: 1973, Revised: 2004
Previously: Thomas W. Johnson Award

The Thomas W. Johnson Award for Career Contributions to Family Medicine Education is designed to be the highest honor presented by the Academy for outstanding contributions to family medicine education in undergraduate, graduate and continuing education spheres. It is intended to recognize a career of national prominence, reflecting leadership and long-term dedication to family medicine education rather than a single, significant contribution. Restricted to AAFP members only. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact AAFP at (800) 274-2237, ext. 6702, or ccaton@aafp.org.

History: The award was named in honor of Dr. Tom Johnson, a long-time member of the AAFP who joined the Education Division staff in 1969. Dr. Johnson served as Director of the Division of Education from 1971 until 1973.
