Presidential Primary Activities

The AAFP is actively involved in the 2008 presidential primaries. Strategies include a questionnaire sent to all declared candidates (to provide members and chapters with candidates’ positions on issues) and meeting with candidates’ staff to discuss issues of importance to family medicine.

Additionally, FamMedPAC will be participating with other health care specialty PACs in activities at both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions.

The AAFP web site provides resources for members to learn about the candidates' positions on health care and includes the following resources:
  • 2008 Presidential Candidates’ Health Care Positions
  • Side-by-side Comparison of Candidates’ Positions
  • Questions to Ask Candidates at Campaign Events
  • Fact Sheets on Issues Important to Family Medicine
  • Webcasts from Kaiser Family Foundation
  • 2008 Presidential Candidates’ Calendar
Finally, two candidates to date have responded to the AAFP’s survey on their positions relative to health care: Senators Dodd and Obama. Their responses are available online.
