Summary of Responsibilities:

An exciting opportunity is available immediately for a research nurse to participate in a highly collaborative team conducting a high profile national demonstration project. The project, sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, seeks to transform family medicine practices toward improved practice operations and patient care.

TransforMED, a division of the AAFP, will provide ongoing consultation and support to physicians in transforming their medical practices to the new model of family medicine, as defined in the Future of Family Medicine Report (published online at http://www.annfammed.org). TransforMED is affiliated with the American Academy of Family Physicians and will be located in Leawood, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. Initial work has included the development, implementation and evaluation of a 24 month National Demonstration Project (NDP), involving 32 family medicine practices in the transformation to a new model of care. TransforMED’s products and services are being developed through work on the demonstration project. The research nurse will be instrumental in working with the 32 NDP practices and will work directly with TransforMED staff and the staff of the external evaluator for the project.

The research nurse position involves traveling to 32 family medicine practices around the country almost every week for the duration of the project. The purpose of the visits is to perform medical record reviews.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a Registered Nurse with research and medical record review experience. Experience with electronic medical records is highly desirable. The applicant should possess excellent interpersonal and computer skills. Efficient organization, attention to detail, and a self-starter attitude are vital to this position, as is the ability to problem solve in different medical environments and maintain strong communication with contacts within the practices. The position requires the ability to work independently with limited supervision and still remain a viable team member by maintaining communication with both the TransforMED staff and research team. The ideal candidate will be a Registered Nurse. A willingness to travel is essential. Training in chart data abstraction specific to the NDP methodology will be provided. The research nurse will participate as an integral member of a dynamic team conducting this project and will have the opportunity to participate in the generation of scholarly output if desired.
