AAFP Vaccine Science Fellowship

DEADLINE: March 15, 2013

The American Academy of Family Physicians announces the availability of two vaccine science fellowship positions for family physicians. The selected fellows will work with mentors to become more knowledgeable about vaccine science and policy.

The overall intent of the program is to develop a cadre of family physicians interested in and knoledgeable about vaccine issues. This cadre of family physician vaccine experts will assist the AAFP in providing effective input into the deliberations and decision of federal and state public health agencies that set vaccine policies as well as educating practicing family physicians about advnaces in vaccines. This fellowship will address the interface between public health and the family physician community to make vaccine information effective and practical tot he membership of the AAFP. The proposed outcome will be improved use of immunizations by the U.S. public and the highest level possible of vaccine safety and public acceptance of vaccines.

Selected applicants will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and practical experience through participation in meetings of leading experts in public health and immunizations, federal and state vaccine policy groups and vaccine manufacturers.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicant must be Active Category Members of the American Academy of Family Physicians, in practice or teaching and out of residency and fellowship.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Applicant must submit a CV, letter of interest, and complete a conflict of interest form.
  • Each applicant must devote approximately 10% of full-time employment (FTE) for one year.
  • Applicant's institution, practice and/or department chair must submit a letter agreeing to commit 10% FTE protected time for the applicant to complete the fellowship.
  • Applicant must commit to travel time for appropriate meetings (see Fellowship description).
