Patients Who Need Help Paying for Health Care

NeedyMeds -- NeedyMeds is designed to provide information about patient assistance programs which provide no cost prescription medications to eligible participants.

Partnership for Prescription Assistance -- The Partnership for Prescription Assistance brings together America’s pharmaceutical companies, doctors, other health care providers, patient advocacy organizations and community groups to help qualifying patients who lack prescription coverage get the medicines they need through the public or private program that’s right for them. Many will get them free or nearly free.

National Association of Free Clinics -- A non-profit professional association composed of free clinics and state/regional free clinic associations, working together to support free clinics and the people they serve. There are currently over 800 free clinics in 47 states.

National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) -- Web site that helps those involved with America's community, migrant, and homeless health centers -- federal and state policymakers, primary care associations, health centers, clinicians, and patients.

2010 National Minority Health Month - April -- This year, the AAFP's National Minority Health month focuses on minority recruitment in medicine and is providing you resources about recruitment into family medicine.

Literacy: Health and Language

National Health Communication Conference: Practical Solutions to the Problems of Low Health Literacy -- To be held November 30, 2005, at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC. This conference is hosted by the American College of Physicians Foundation and co-sponsored by the Institute of Medicine. Experts in health literacy and health communication will present findings on operational solutions to the problems of low health literacy that have been implemented and evaluated in the field.

Center for Immigrant Health -- The Center at the New York University School of Medicine offers a cultural competence curriculum, research into the best practices on culturally competent healthcare delivery, information on cultural beliefs and their impact on health-related behavior and decision-making, cultural competence training, and reviews of evaluation tools to assess cultural competence.

Limited English Proficiency -- Information about how to address language barriers in family medicine.
