About the AAFP National Research Network


Demographic Map

The AAFP NRN currently has 369 primary care clinician members representing 48 states and 4 Canadian provinces. The NRN also has affiliation agreements with 12 local, state, and regional PBRNs. These affiliated networks bring an additional 1,000+ clinicians into the NRN.

Geographically, the U.S. members of the AAFP NRN are located as follows: 20% are located in the Northeast, 22% are located in the Midwest, 22% are located in the West, and 36% are located in the South.

Approximately 29% of our members are located in smaller rural communities, while 11.4% identify their practice as located in inner-city urban settings. Regarding practice settings, 14% practice in a solo practice, 3% in a two-person partnership, 25% in a family medicine group, 14% in a multispecialty group, 38% in family medicine residency/family medicine department practices, and 6% in other types of practices.

The National Research Network also belongs to the Federation of Practice-Based Research Networks.
