Electronic Network
The NRN's Electronic Network is a federated network of electronic health records (EHR) from 150 clinics from around the country, representing over 1700 clinicians and over 4,000,000 patients.
The Electronic Network, which started out as DARTNet, began as a prototype and since 2007 has developed into a full-fledged sub-group of the AAFP NRN.
The goal of the Electronic Network is to demonstrate how existing data sets can be enhanced to inform and expand knowledge of effective and safe medical therapeutics, as well as to demonstrate the ability to collect specific data from clinicians, staff or patients to enrich the EHR data set and answer effectiveness and safety questions concerning medical therapeutics. Investigators are using the Electronic Network to examine topics such as depression, cardiovascular disease, CA-MRSA, CME effectiveness, chronic kidney disease, proper prescribing of antibiotics and diabetes peer mentoring.
If you are interested in learning more about the Electronic Network or would like to become a member please contact Rusty McLouth at rmclouth@aafp.org for more information.
