Pilot Study #2: Laboratory and Imaging Process Errors in Family Physician Offices
Aims of Study
- To describe and estimate rates of laboratory and imaging process errors detected in family physician offices by physicians and office staff during intensive one-week monitoring periods
- To investigate causes and consequences of these errors
- To generate hypotheses about interventions to avert laboratory and imaging process errors in primary care offices, which we will test in subsequent studies
Reporting Tools and Sites
- Reporting tools: Web-based, telephone and paper
- Sample sites: Eight sites with distribution similar to first pilot
- Urban/rural/suburban
- Office practices/residency clinics
- Private/community health
Sources of Data
- Error reporting, based on 48 weeks of sentinel and intensive reports
- Focus groups
- System redesign investigations
