Research grants to individuals

Funds to finance the direct costs of cancer research.

Program project grants

Funds to finance the direct costs of cancer research being undertaken by a group of researchers working together in a concerted fashion.

Personnel support awards

Stipend support for trainees via a number of different mechanisms, including postgraduate training fellowships, studentships and travel awards for students.

Special initiatives

Programs approved by the NCIC Board of Directors to fulfill special needs in areas of cancer research.  These are expected to be time limited and to have special envelopes of funding allocated to them. This includes special initiatives of the Leadership Fund.

Leadership Fund which meets the joint NCIC/CCS mission of improving cancer control by addressing areas in the CCS’s Research Portfolio where both organizations agree they can demonstrate leadership.  The first three priority areas are:

National programs and networks

Includes the NCIC Clinical Trials Group (NCIC CTG) and the NCIC Centre for Behavioural Research and Program Evaluation (NCIC CBRPE).

Cancer research workshop support

Funds to support meetings of up to 30 people individually invited to address specific questions or problems important to cancer research in Canada;

Symposium or conference support

Funds to support formal scientific meetings where researchers will have the opportunity to assemble, exchange and disseminate information that will enhance cancer research activities in Canada;

Partnership programs

Collaborations in which the NCIC plays a significant role, but each of which is managed separately from the NCIC.  These programs receive funds from the NCIC as well as other sources and the NCIC therefore invites applications to these other programs, as appropriate. Current partnerships include CBCRA, CPCRI, CTCRI and UICC.
