Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO)

Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) helps physicians, midwives, labor and delivery nurses, and other health care providers develop and maintain the knowledge and skills they need to effectively manage potential emergencies during the perinatal period. The program additionally serves as an aid for training residents in obstetrics as well as family medicine.

Administered in 62 countries, ALSO is structured, evidence-based, and multidisciplinary.

INTRODUCING Basic Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSO) - Learn more about this program developed for first responders, medical and nursing students, to manage normal labor and obstetrical emergencies.

NEW ALSO Instructor Manual - Sponsors holding courses on or after May 1, 2012 will be required to purchase a new instructor manual (5th edition, Feb 2012) for each of their faculty who do not yet own one. All instructors will be required to teach from this new manual after May 1, 2012.

ALSO Forms -- Download all pre- and post-course forms needed to sponsor an ALSO course, including a coordinator checklist, sample worksheets, status life cycle, etc.
Provider Course -- Two-day course for all maternity care providers, including physicians, nurse midwives, registered nurses and other clinicians.

Instructor Course -- One-day course on specific teaching skills required for adult learning.

Refresher Course -- One-day course on treating emergencies that may occur during pregnancy (limited courses per year).
