ALSO Evidence-based Curriculum

2006 to Present Revisions

The 2006 to present edition of the ALSO syllabus is an ongoing process. As chapters are revised, they will be replaced in the syllabus. If a chapter currently does not need to be revised, one-page evidence-based addendum will be published. All revised chapters and one-page addendum are available on this Web site.

Strength of Recommendation -- The 2006 to present edition of the ALSO syllabus and one-page evidence-based addendum use the Strength of Recommendation Taxonomy (SORT) to determine evidence-based recommendations.

2000 Revisions

The 2000 ALSO Syllabus revision used many resources to evaluate the available literature. Authors and editors conducted searches of the Cochrane Library, resources from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, and the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care. Various databases, including but not limited to MEDLINE, PUBMED and OVID were also searched.

Levels of Evidence -- In the 2000 edition, quality of the studies was evaluated according to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care criteria to determine levels of evidence.
