All Satellite Focus Group events must be held in compliance with AAFP guidelines and the AMA Ethical Opinion on Gifts to Physicians from Industry.
The sponsor must ensure that the content does not promote unapproved uses, and that discussions of the company’s products are not false or misleading and do not lack fair balance. All products and/or uses presented during a promotional event must be FDA approved.
Roles and Responsibilities
Sponsor
The sponsor is the organization or company responsible for designing and implementing the focus group. This company may also serve as the supporter. All communication from AAFP will be directed to the sponsor.
In the event final approval is denied by the AAFP, it is the responsibility of the sponsor or its agent(s) to cancel any arrangements that might have been made in connection with the Satellite event. The AAFP will not be responsible for any expenditure or other costs incurred by the sponsor or its agent(s) in planning or conducting the Satellite Focus Group event.

Supporter
The company or companies (e.g., pharmaceutical or medical device manufacturer) providing monetary or in-kind support for the activity. All supporters must be listed on the Application to Hold a Satellite Event.
Supporter(s) of the event must exhibit at the 2008 AAFP Exposition in a minimum 400 square foot space. If the event has more than one supporter, only one is required to exhibit.
Activity Organizer
The activity organizer is the organization (e.g., communications company, public relations agency) designated by the sponsor to handle event details.
Changes to Sponsor or Supporter(s)
Upon approval to hold a Satellite Focus Group event, AAFP must be notified immediately if the sponsor and/or supporter(s) listed on the application changes.
