The responsibility of the AAFP and all involved parties who participate in planning and managing Satellite events is protecting the integrity and quality of these events. Of necessity, a major portion of these guidelines must relate to the “rules and regulations” to ensure compliance with the requirements of AAFP, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education’s (ACCME) Standards for Commercial Support, and the AMA’s Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs’ Ethical Opinion on Gifts to Physicians from Industry.
Our goal is to conduct the AAFP’s oversight responsibilities in a fair and equitable manner. Your thoughtful attention to these processes and requirements is needed to ensure a successful outcome. We realize your decision to conduct a Satellite event represents a large investment of time and money and is a benefit to AAFP convention attendees.

Providing and supporting a Satellite event during the AAFP Scientific Assembly is a valuable opportunity to reach a broad segment of the AAFP’s membership in a relaxing and positive setting.
AAFP Assembly Satellite Department grants permission to CME providers and sponsors to hold a Satellite event and the opportunity to market to AAFP members attending Assembly (an access agreement). AAFP Assembly Management requires that all supporters of Satellite events (CME, promotional, and focus group) exhibit at the AAFP Exposition in a minimum 400 square foot space (an exhibition agreement). If an event has more than one supporter only one company is required to exhibit at the meeting.
In a separate application process, each CME provider of Satellite CME events must apply for AAFP Prescribed credit approval through the AAFP CME Accreditation Department.
