Learning Categories
Each AAFP Scientific Assembly education session is categorized into learning categories.
Learning Category I: Didactic Lecture
A traditional lecture format consisting of a 45 minute lecture followed by a 15 minute question and answer session. The room is generally a traditional lecture style format and may hold 400 to 800+ more people. These sessions are designed for visual and auditory learning styles.
Learning Category II: Interactive Lecture
Interactive sessions offer attendees collaborative learning opportunities where they can participate by exploring, reflecting and thinking critically together. The room is set up with ‘theatre seating’ attendees can participate in quick interactions, solve problems or answer questions in dyads or triads. A sub-committee member may be in the room to assist in managing the groups. These sessions are designed for verbal, visual, and auditory learning styles.
Learning Category III: Audience Response System (ARS)
Audience Response System (ARS) – allows the facilitator to conduct interactive sessions by capturing and measuring the audience’s response to questions in real-time. The facilitator develops a quiz or gathers audience answers to questions posed during the presentation. These sessions are designed for verbal, visual, and auditory learning styles.
Learning Category IV: Blast Presentations
These sessions are designed to give attendees quick updates on a specific topic. Three different presenters will each give 15-minute presentations on their topic, followed by a 15-minute question and answer session. A sub-committee member moderates the session; providing introductions and keeping faculty to the time-line. These sessions are designed for visual and auditory learning styles.
Learning Category V: Procedures
Attendees observe expert faculty demonstrating procedures followed by hands-on practice of procedural techniques such as within Musculoskeletal Clinics and Clinical Procedures Workshops. Additional fees may apply. These sessions are designed for kinesthetic learners.
