Eligibility
Costs & Specifications
If selected for presentation, there is no exhibiting fee for poster presentations. Poster presentations are presented on both sides of a freestanding board.
On-site Poster Presentations
The Exposition Hall will be open from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily, Thursday, September 18 thru Saturday, September 20. Dedicated hours are from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. daily. A qualified demonstrator must staff posters during dedicated hours.
Staffing
The senior presenter must be the author of the work on which the poster is based or the person responsible for the content, arrangement and presentation of the data in the poster. The senior presenter may not be a sales representative of a commercial firm or representative of agencies hired or employed by a firm providing financial support to a poster. The senior presenter is required to be in attendance at the Assembly and in charge of the poster presentation. If this is not possible, the senior presenter is expected to inform the AAFP promptly. The senior presenter shall be responsible for seeing that all rules and regulations have been explained to everyone who will be staffing the poster. Sales representatives of commercial firms or representatives of agencies hired or employed by a firm providing financial support to a poster are not permitted to staff or present at any time. There will be no exceptions to this rule. Failure to comply with the rules could have an effect on exhibiting at future AAFP meetings.
On-site Judging & Awards for Posters (Residents and Medical Students)
The Subcommittee will judge the effectiveness of the poster, the content of the research project, and the presentation skills of the presenter. Residents and medical students will give a three-minute oral presentation during the judging. A $700 cash prize and ribbon for first-place and $300 cash prize and ribbon for second place, along with ribbons for third place will be awarded to the senior presenter in the family medicine resident and medical student poster categories.

Poster Travel Grants (Residents and Medical Students)
A maximum of 15 travel grants of $1,000 each will be available to help defray travel expenses for residents and medical students. Travel grants will be awarded based on the strength of the research project and the application. Applicants will not be considered for travel grants unless the project was designed, implemented, and completed by the senior presenters of the resident or medical student project.
