She is the visionary leader responsible for the Texas A&M Health Science Center becoming a premier assembly of colleges devoted to educating health professionals and researchers who possess extraordinary competence and integrity.

Dr. Dickey was the first women to be elected president of the American Medical Association and is the recipient of numerous awards, including five honorary doctorate degrees. Dr. Dickey is well known for advocating the principle that all people, regardless of geography, economics or culture, deserve the benefits of compassionate care, superior science, and exceptional health education.
