CME Activity Audits
AAFP's CME Credit System and Compliance Department conducts two types of audits:
- Random educational
- Complaint
NOTE: If the institution has undergone an ACCME accreditation review within the last year, documentation of successful completion may be sent in lieu of the following documents to satisfy the AAFP audit.
Required Documents for Live Activity Educational Elements
- Final CME activity documentation (brochure,syllabus, handouts, power point presentations)
- A copy of the AAFP credit statement, as printed in the activity materials.
- A copy of the policy requiring disclosure of all relevant financial relationships with any commercial interest that the faculty, CME planners and provider have pertaining to topic(s) of the CME activity. (Standards 2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3)
- Copies of all forms that identified Conflict of Interest (CoI) and evidence of your resolutions of the CoI.
- All documentation that faculty and CME provider disclosed to learners prior to the educational activity relevant financial relationships/no relationships with any commercial interest in on-site materials or slides (Standards 6, 6.1, 6.2, 6.5)
- Completed Family Physician Input Form (AAFP will provide, if applicable).
- A copy of the CME activity evaluation form.
If the CME activity secured commercial support, the CME provider must also include:
- All documentation that commercial support was disclosed to learners with no reference to specific products. (Standards 6.3 and 6.4)
- A copy of letter(s) of agreement with all commercial supporter(s) of this CME activity outlining the terms, conditions, and purposes of support signed by both provider and supporter agreeing to comply with the terms of the agreement. (Standards 3.4, 3.5, 3.6)
- If a social event was held in conjunction with this CME activity, provide a copy of the description/invitation or other method used to notify participants of the event. This is to document that commercially supported social events did not compete with, nor take precedence over the educational event. (Standard 3.11)
The AAFP reserves the right to perform a post-activity audit and/or have a live monitor at any AAFP certified CME activity.
