Credit Statements

Pending Statement Prior to AAFP CME Approval

CME providers may use the following statement prior to receiving official notification of AAFP CME credit determination, but only after an application for CME credit has been received by the AAFP for review:

Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Determination of credit is pending.
The following statements can be used only upon written credit approval from AAFP.

"Save the Date" Announcement

After receiving official credit approval, the following statement may be used for "save the date" announcements and advertisements without using the full AAFP CME credit statement. The full credit statement must be used on all other activity materials.

AAFP (number of credits) (Prescribed/Elective) credits approved.

Live Activities

This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to ____ (Prescribed or Elective) credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Enduring Materials -- Single Activities

This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to ____ (Prescribed or Elective) credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP accreditation begins ____. Term of approval is for (one/two) year(s) from this date with option for yearly renewal.*

*Optional wording for renewed enduring materials: This activity has been renewed from (date) to (date).

Enduring Materials -- Series Activities and Medical Journals

(Activity Name) has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to ____ (Prescribed or Elective) credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP accreditation begins ____. Term of approval is for (one/two) year(s) from this date. (This/Each) (element, volume, issue, monograph, tape, etc.) is approved for ____ (Prescribed or Elective) credit(s). Credit may be claimed for (one/two) year(s) from the date of (this/each) issue.

Split Credit with No Concurrent Sessions

In instances in which a single activity is approved for some Prescribed credit(s) and some Elective credit(s), and in which no sessions run concurrently, the following wording may be substituted for the first sentence in the live activity and enduring material statements; the type of credit approved should be clearly noted by individual topic:

This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to ____ Prescribed and ____ Elective credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians.


The following wording may be substituted for the fourth sentence in the enduring material series/medical journal statement; the type of credit approved should be clearly noted by individual article:

(This/Each) (element, volume, issue, monograph, tape, etc.) has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to ____ Prescribed and ____ Elective credit(s).

Split Credit with Concurrent Sessions

In instances in which a single activity is approved for some Prescribed credit(s) and some Elective credit(s), and in which some sessions run concurrently, the following wording may be substituted for the first sentence in the live activity statement; the type of credit approved should be clearly noted by individual topic:

This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to ____credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. This includes ____ Prescribed and ____ Elective credits. Since some sessions run concurrently, no more than ____ credits may be reported.
