Live Activities

CME activity with two or more learners that takes place in real time

CME providers must complete the Application for Approval for Live Activities for CME Credit. The activity director must attests that the activity complies with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Standards for Commercial Support, whether or not the CME activity is being supported with commercial support.

Live Activities consist of single, multi site/date, series, and training program/fellowship activities.

A series activity is a preplanned set of regularly scheduled conferences that occur at one location/institution in a one-year period. These activities can occur weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc. The conferences have different topics related to a unifying theme under an umbrella title (e.g., Family Medicine Grand Rounds, Tumor Boards, Issues in Primary Care). Global objectives also serve to unify the series. The conferences must be uniform in length and may not exceed four (4) hours or 3.75 credits. AAFP requires segments of four (4) hours or more in length to include a 15-minute break. Learn more about series.
NOTE: Approved life support courses (ACLS, ALSO, ATLS, BLS, PALS, NRP) are exempt from review fees.

Submit the CME application, supporting information, and the review fee to AAFP. Please allow 30 business days (6 weeks) for the review process. CME providers will be notified of CME credit approval by e-mail.

Payment must be included with the application to begin the accreditation process. The 30 business day review process begins when payment is received. AAFP will hold applications that are submitted without payment for 10 business days. If payment is not received within that timeframe, the application will be returned to the CME provider.
