Interactive Session: Think-Pair-Share
You know this one...."Turn to your partner and discuss..."! But if you're tired of the same stale questions, chances are your audience is too. While this activity is a great way to 'wake up' the audience, it can be challenging to find questions for them to apply their new knowledge. The following are a few question ideas from "The Ten Minute Trainer":
Turn to your neighbor and.....
- Tell the person the most important fact you learned in the last ten minutes.
- Tell the person why you think the information you just learned applies to what you do.
- Make up a quick question about what you learned and see if that person can answer it.
- Ask the person if what he/she just heard fits with what he/she already knew about the topic.
- Work together to summarize what you have learned.
Be sure to give each partner equal time to talk. You can also combine a 'think-pair-share' with a 'shout out' by asking a few groups to share what they discussed. This allows you to check for learning and for your learner to apply the newly learned material.
