Summary
This 60-minute, lecture-based presentation discusses the different types of eczema; addresses lifestyle modifications to control eczema flares and triggers for atopic dermatitis flares; and identifies a disease management strategy for patients with eczema based on the type of severity of eczema.

Daniel J. Van Durme, MD, FAAFP, is a professor in and chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health and director of the Center on Global Health in the College of Medicine at Florida State University, Tallahassee.
Dr Van Durme earned a medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, and completed a family practice residency in St Petersburg, Florida, and a faculty development fellowship at East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in sports medicine.
Dr Van Durme has been chosen by his peers for listing in Best Doctors since 1995 and in Consumers’ Guide to Top Doctors since 2002. He has served on several national boards of directors, including those of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Annals of Family Medicine journal, the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation, the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation, and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. In addition to interests in global health, sports medicine and dermatology, Dr Van Durme has extensive experience teaching about skin conditions and evidence-based medicine.
