Pre-participation Screening: Performing an Evidence-based Evaluation
This lecture-based presentation addresses pre-participation screening and performing an evidence-based evaluation.
This CME activity is presented by Morteza Khodaee, MD, MPH.
After completing this CME activity, you should be able to:
- Evaluate the components of a Pre-Participation Exam (PPE) and ensure that they are included in the assessment of patients prior to athletic participation
- Include a query of behavioral risk factors and psychosocial assessment in the PPE for patients who require such screening for organized athletics
- Integrate discussions of nutrition, supplement use, weight control, disordered eating, and overuse/overtraining injuries into patient visits during PPEs
- Identify patients at increased risk for sudden cardiac death as part of a thorough PPE
