Pre-participation Screening: Performing an Evidence-based Evaluation

This lecture-based presentation addresses pre-participation screening and performing an evidence-based evaluation.




This CME activity is presented by Morteza Khodaee, MD, MPH.

After completing this CME activity, you should be able to:
  1. Evaluate the components of a Pre-Participation Exam (PPE) and ensure that they are included in the assessment of patients prior to athletic participation
  2. Include a query of behavioral risk factors and psychosocial assessment in the PPE for patients who require such screening for organized athletics
  3. Integrate discussions of nutrition, supplement use, weight control, disordered eating, and overuse/overtraining injuries into patient visits during PPEs
  4. Identify patients at increased risk for sudden cardiac death as part of a thorough PPE
