Core Competencies

AAFP provides numerous opportunities for family physicians to acquire knowledge and skills that are critical in today's health care system. Professional competencies for family physicians include medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice-based learning and improvement, and systems-based practice. All CME activities allow family physicians to add to their expertise and knowledge in one or more of the competency areas.
