Childhood Obesity: Assessment, Prevention, and Treatment

After reading this CME Bulletin, the learner should be able to:
  1. Identify correct BMI percentile categories for children ages 2 to 19 years.
  2. Describe obesity-risk behaviors and the potential consequences of overweight and obesity in children.
  3. Discuss weight-management and obesity-prevention strategies with patients and their families; connect patients and their families to community resources for managing their weight; and motivate patients to make healthy lifestyle choices.
  4. Implement a practical, collaborative, stepwise approach to treating childhood overweight and obesity in a busy family medicine setting.
