Caring for Patients Who Have Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
- Accurately diagnose benign prostatic hyperplasia based on presenting symptoms, medical history and a careful physical examination.
- Screen for other or coexisting causes of lower urinary tract symptoms.
- Identify appropriate treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia based on each patient's situation, taking into account the degree to which a patient's symptoms affect his quality of life and any comorbidities.
- Determine when consultation with a urologist is appropriate.
