Caring for Patients Who Have Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

After reading this CME Bulletin, you should be able to:
  1. Accurately diagnose benign prostatic hyperplasia based on presenting symptoms, medical history and a careful physical examination.
  2. Screen for other or coexisting causes of lower urinary tract symptoms.
  3. Identify appropriate treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia based on each patient's situation, taking into account the degree to which a patient's symptoms affect his quality of life and any comorbidities.
  4. Determine when consultation with a urologist is appropriate.
This CME bulletin is supported by an educational grant to the AAFP from Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
