Child and Adolescent Immunizations

AAFP CME Bulletin

After reading this CME Bulletin, you should be able to:
  • Utilize mechanisms to receive updates about immunization schedule changes, vaccine shortages or delays (e.g., CDC, FDA, health department information).
  • Be aware of the most recent recommendations related to specific vaccine schedules that may vary according to individual immunity, contraindications and precautions for haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), pneumococcus, and hepatitis A.
  • Formulate plans to effectively administer vaccines to patients who may have missed certain vaccines, fallen behind in their immunization schedule, or require immunization due to special circumstances (i.e., being in a “high-risk” group).
  • Consider barriers to vaccinating children under the age of 4 (such as technology or supply shortages), specifically related to delays or missed doses of vaccines such as Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib), pneumococcus and hepatitis A.
