In December 2012 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a safety announcement regarding telaprevir (Incivek) combination therapy. When taken with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin, serious skin reactions have been reported. Importantly, when telaprevir combination therapy was continued after rash development, some deaths occurred. It is necessary to stop telaprevir combination therapy if serious rashes develop.
