Preoperative and Postoperative Management of Patients with Hip Fracture

After reading this CME Bulletin, you should be able to:
  1. Identify patients who are at risk for complications following surgical hip repair, such as deep venous thromboembolism (DVT), pressure ulcers,urinary tract infection (UTI) and delirium;
  2. Prescribe appropriate, evidence-based interventions (pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic) to mitigate these risks; and
  3. Support the patient and his or her caregivers in identifying and achieving the patient's goals for rehabilitation.
