As the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Haywood is part of the senior management team that oversees quality measurement, quality improvement, Medicare conditions of participation, quality information systems, and National Coverage Decisions. In addition, Trent is spearheading the Agency’s physician Pay-for-Performance initiative with the goal of aligning financial system with professional goals of higher quality. Trent has also led many of the Agency’s quality improvement projects related to acute and chronic disease management, including end stage renal disease; and improvement activities focused on hospital, home health, and nursing home settings, including the Agency’s Nursing Home Quality Initiative, the Home Health Quality Initiative, the Hospital Quality Initiative and the Physician Focused Quality Initiative.
Dr. Haywood is a practicing physician and is also an attorney by training. Dr Haywood currently practices in the emergency department at a local VA facility in Chicago.
Dr. Haywood holds a BS degree from the University of Notre Dame; an M.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago; and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Loyola University. Dr. Haywood also holds a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
