The Annals , which will begin publishing in spring, 2003, will meet the needs of those who generate and use new knowledge about health and primary health care. It will feature online interactive discussions that actively engage individuals and groups affected by the published research. The discussions will be synthesized in published summaries.
Published six times a year, the Annals is a collaborative effort of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Board of Family Practice (ABFP), the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) the Association of Departments of Family Medicine (ADFM), the Association of Family Practice Residency Directors (AFPRD), and the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG. It is managed by an independent board of directors with representation from each of the six organizations.
“We are excited about fostering a learning community,” said Kurt Stange, M.D., Ph.D., Annals of Family Medicine editor. “We invite those with new insights into the basic and applied science of generalist practice to submit their manuscripts.”

The Annals of Family Medicine is a peer-reviewed research journal that addresses important questions in health and the provision of patient-centered, prioritized, high-quality health care.
Founded in 1947, the AAFP represents 110,600 physicians and medical students nationwide. It is the only medical society devoted solely to primary care.
Approximately one in four of all office visits are made to family physicians. That is 240 million office visits each year — nearly 87 million more than the next largest medical specialty. Today, family physicians provide more care for America’s underserved and rural populations than any other medical specialty. Family medicine’s cornerstone is an ongoing, personal patient-physician relationship focused on integrated care.
