CHARLOTTE, N.C., For the first time, members of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the only medical specialty society devoted solely to primary care, will have special access to critical Web-based benchmarking information provided by Physcape Inc., - the nation’s leading provider of Web-based medical practice benchmarking services n through a new affiliate agreement.

"The AAFP aims to help family practices create efficiencies and identify revenue opportunities within their practices," said Douglas E. Henley, MD, executive vice president of the AAFP. "By using Physcape, family physicians can identify under- and over-coding issues and address them to achieve better practice performance, which in turn helps them better serve their patients." AAFP members will soon have access to Physcape via AAFP’s Web site http://www.aafp.org, where they may enroll for the service. Members will receive notification when this link becomes available. Through this subscription, members can quickly assess their practices’ performance, generate reports and analyze data through comparison with Physcape’s database of more than 90 million procedure records.

"Ease of use is an essential element of benchmarking and a major priority for Physcape," said Luke McCain, CEO of Physcape. "In the past, family physicians have only had access to data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for benchmarking purposes. While these data were valuable, they contained information for patients older than 65. However, the majority of family practice patients are younger than 65. Physcape allows family physicians to benchmark against like practices and for their specific patient mix, regardless of payer."

As an MGMA Services Inc. company, Physcape works in concert with the Medical Group Management Association, the nation’s leading source of data for the medical group practice industry.

About the AAFP
Founded in 1947, the AAFP represents 100,300 physicians and medical students nationwide. It is the only medical society devoted solely to primary care.

Approximately one in four of all office visits are made to family physicians. That is 228 million office visits each year — nearly 84 million more than the next largest medical specialty. Today, family physicians provide more care for America’s underserved and rural populations than any other medical specialty. Family medicine’s cornerstone is an ongoing, personal patient-physician relationship focused on integrated care.
