AAFP Statement: Family Physicians Applaud Brailer for Work to Establish Connected Health I.T. System

“The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) applauds David Brailer, M.D., Ph.D., for all the outstanding work he has done in his role as the national health information technology coordinator for the Department of Health and Human Services. We congratulate him for making substantial progress towards an interoperable health information technology system that will provide substantial improvements in safety and efficiency.
"We commend Dr. Brailer’s leadership and contribution in raising the awareness of the importance of information technology and electronic health records in improving the quality, safety and effectiveness of health care for patients. Through his leadership, much groundwork has been laid in the development and adoption of standards for interoperability, one of the AAFP’s guiding principles.
“Brailer’s efforts have led to the adoption of health care information technology by physicians, hospitals and other health care providers and have encouraged the formation and growth of more than 200 community, regional and state organizations across the country, each working towards the goal of a safe and interoperable system.
“Brailer has been instrumental in instituting the many changes now rapidly occurring at both the national and local levels, within both the private and public sectors. Again, we applaud and thank him for all of his hard work.”
