LEAWOOD, Kan. – The American Academy of Family Physicians is pleased to announce the appointment of Sandra L. Panther as vice president of corporate development and executive director for its foundation effective immediately.

Panther, formerly executive vice president of the AAFP Foundation and the director of corporate development for the AAFP, has served both organizations for nearly 34 years.

“I’m excited about the change because it will bring a much more coordinated and focused approach to the AAFP’s fundraising efforts,” said Panther. “The restructuring of the organization represents better alignment of the AAFP and the Foundation’s strategic objectives.”

In her new role, Panther will supervise and coordinate all AAFP corporate and grant fundraising efforts excluding journal advertisements and exhibit space at conventions. She will supervise and coordinate the business, administrative, programmatic, organizational and fundraising activities of the Foundation. Panther will be a member of the AAFP vice president management team, and will attend meetings of the AAFP board of directors representing Foundation issues.

Current Foundation and AAFP corporate development staff will become or will remain AAFP staff and will report to Panther. The reorganization does not affect the AAFP Foundation’s non-profit status.

Founded in 1947, the AAFP represents 105,900 physicians and medical students nationwide. It is the only medical society devoted solely to primary care.

Approximately one in four of all office visits are made to family physicians. That is 240 million office visits each year — nearly 87 million more than the next largest medical specialty. Today, family physicians provide more care for America’s underserved and rural populations than any other medical specialty. Family medicine’s cornerstone is an ongoing, personal patient-physician relationship focused on integrated care.
