CHICAGO – Glen R. Stream, M.D., FAAFP, MBI, a family physician in Spokane, Wash., has been elected to the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). The AAFP represents nearly 94,000 physicians and medical students nationwide. Stream was elected to a three-year term by the AAFP’s governing body, the Congress of Delegates.

Dr. Stream has been a family physician serving the Pacific Northwest for more than 25 years. He joined the Rockwood Clinic, the largest multi-specialty practice in Spokane, in 1991. At Rockwood he has served as board member, chief privacy officer, and medical director of clinical information services since 2002. Prior to his move to Spokane, Stream worked six years in a three-physician rural family medicine practice in Cashmere, Wash.

A member of the AAFP since 1985, Stream has served on the AAFP Commission on Governmental Advocacy since 2005. He also has served as a delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates since 2000, and as an alternate delegate from 1994 to 1999. Stream is an AAFP fellow, an earned degree awarded to family physicians for distinguished service and continuing medical education.

A member of the Washington Academy of Family Physicians (WAFP) since 1985, Stream has served in numerous leadership roles, including one year as president and four years as co-chair for the WAFP Commission on Legislation and Governmental Affairs. Stream continues to play an active leadership role with the Washington Academy of Family Physicians Foundation – the charitable arm of the WAFP.

Stream has also been an active member of the Washington State Medical Association, in which he served on the Inter-Specialty Council, and a trustee of the Spokane County Medical Society.

Dr. Stream attended the University of Washington, Seattle, where he graduated cum laude with a degree in microbiology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle and completed his family medicine residency at the Swedish Hospital Family Medicine Residency program, also in Seattle. He also completed a Master of Biomedical Informatics degree at the Oregon Health and Science University in June 2007. Stream is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Founded in 1947, the AAFP represents more than 94,600 physicians and medical students nationwide. It is the only medical society devoted solely to primary care.

Nearly one in four of all office visits are made to family physicians. That is 208 million office visits each year - nearly 83 million more than the next largest medical specialty. Today, family physicians provide more care for America’s underserved and rural populations than any other medical specialty.

In the increasingly fragmented world of health care where many medical specialties limit their practice to a particular organ, disease, age or sex, family physicians are dedicated to treating the whole person across the full spectrum of ages. Family medicine’s cornerstone is an ongoing, personal patient-physician relationship focused on integrated care.
