Guzman has more than 17 years of experience in health care communications. In 2000, she joined the AAFP’s Online and Custom Publishing Division where she has served as assistant director since 2005. In her new role as director, Guzman is responsible for the development of timely, accurate, high-quality educational tools and materials to meet the needs of family physicians and their patients. She oversees content development for the AAFP’s award-winning consumer Web site, FamilyDoctor.org, as well as six other internal and external AAFP Web sites.
“Susanna’s commitment to the AAFP and the specialty of family medicine make her the ideal person to lead the division forward,” said Michael Springer, AAFP vice president for publishing and communications. “I am confident in her abilities to leverage the organization’s content and technology assets to the benefit of our physician members, their patients, as well as our media partners.”
Prior to joining the AAFP, Guzman served as health care editor for Bizspace Inc., in Kansas City, Mo. Prior to that, she worked for Cerner Corporation in Kansas City, Mo., where she contributed to the development of decision support tools. Guzman also has contributed numerous articles for publication in AAFP journals and newsletters.
Guzman earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Founded in 1947, the AAFP represents 110,600 physicians and medical students nationwide. It is the only medical society devoted solely to primary care.
Approximately one in four of all office visits are made to family physicians. That is 240 million office visits each year — nearly 87 million more than the next largest medical specialty. Today, family physicians provide more care for America’s underserved and rural populations than any other medical specialty. Family medicine’s cornerstone is an ongoing, personal patient-physician relationship focused on integrated care.
