International Member
The following are the criteria for all international members of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Eligibility
- Physicians engaged in family medicine, the teaching of family medicine, or medical administration who are licensed to practice in countries or territories outside the United States in which no constituent chapter exists and who are not eligible for membership in the Uniformed Services Chapter.
- Medical students and physicians in training in countries and territories outside the U.S. in which no constituent chapter exists and who are not eligible for membership in the Uniformed Services chapter may be elected to international membership.
Privileges
- May hold floor at Assembly. May not hold national office or committee appointment and may not vote in national affairs.

National AAFP Dues
- $110.00 annual dues (Jan. 1. to Dec. 31)
- Note: International Medical Students: $35.00 annual dues (Jan 1. to Dec. 31). See International Medical Students below.
General AAFP International Membership Information
International applications are approved subject to AAFP Bylaws. National headquarters completes enrollment. Transfers from one classification to another must be approved by the constituent chapter where applicable. If all membership requirements are met, membership is continued on an annual basis, unless notification is received from the member.
International Medical Students
International medical students who have not completed their training and have not entered a residency program may apply for AAFP Student membership. Annual dues for international medical students is $35.000 (Jan. 1 thru Dec. 31). To apply, please complete and submit an online AAFP Student membership application, or you may download, print, complete and submit an AAFP Student membership application (1-page PDF file; About PDFs). Please indicate your medical school name and address, as well as completing your contact information as indicated on the form.
