Student Member
The following are the criteria for all student members of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Eligibility
- Students enrolled in allopathic or osteopathic medical schools that are approved by appropriate U.S. accrediting institutions as defined by the AAFP Commission on Education.
Privileges
- May have floor at Assembly. (Duly-elected student delegates to the Congress have additional privileges.)
Term of Membership
- Terminates upon graduation from medical school.
Continuing Study Requirements
- None
National AAFP Dues
- $15.00 one-time payment for duration of medical school.
General Membership Information
- Applications for student and resident membership are approved at the national level, subject to AAFP Bylaws.
- National headquarters completes enrollment. Transfers from one classification to another must be approved by the constituent chapter.
- If all membership requirements are met, membership is continued on an annual basis, unless notification is received from the member.
Constituent and Local Chapter Dues
Membership is unified; members are required to belong to AAFP (national) and their constituent (state) chapters. They are also required to belong to their component (local) chapters where they exist. All chapter dues are set locally. Total annual dues information may be obtained from AAFP headquarters.
International Medical Students
For students attending an international medical school, the AAFP offers a membership option tailored to meet your specific need. To apply, please complete and submit an online AAFP Student membership application or you may download, print, complete and submit an AAFP Student membership application. Please indicate your medical school name and address, as well as completing your contact information as indicated on the form.
