2012 Fellowship Breakfast Speaker
Dennis F. Saver, M.D., FAAFP, is a family physician and founding president of Primary Care of the Treasure Coast in Vero Beach, Florida. His background includes a decade of service in the rural Appalachian town of Newburg, West Virginia, starting as a 2-year National Health Service Corps assignment. After returning to Florida, he volunteered in 1991 as chair of his county medical society's indigent task force, which developed a volunteer physician clinic using the Florida Medical Association's "We Care" model. The program, which utilizes a rotating roster of volunteer subspecialists, answered the need for subspecialist care for patients with Medicaid or no insurance. This program continues still, 20 years later.
While President of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP) in 2004, he initiated a historic project titled "EHR Now!" to provide consultation services to 74 Florida Academy members who wished to purchase an electronic health record. Dr. Saver is Chair of the Patient Centered Medical Home Task Force for the FAFP and works with professional organizations, physicians, and the public regarding the development of PCMH models. He is currently a delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates from Florida, was previously a member of the AAFP Commission on Quality and Practice, and had been recognized as the national 2001 Family Physician of the Year by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
