The AAFP has teamed up with medical publisher Elsevier to offer Elsevier's FIRSTConsult electronic clinical information system to AAFP members.

FIRSTConsult is an evidence-based electronic clinical information system, specially designed for use at the point of care. With full desktop and handheld features, FIRSTConsult offers comprehensive, continuously updated Medical Topics on patient evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, tests, disease prevention, and much more.

Family physicians can also access the Differential Diagnoses tool that enables you to work back from a patient’s chief complaint to interactive diagnostic tables containing up to 1,800 possible diagnoses sorted by age and prevalence, for at-a-glance review. Patient Education handouts, available in both English and Spanish on more than 300 diseases can be customized by the physician and tailored to the patient's specific care plan. Procedures provide clear, systematic guidance, in the form of text, video, and animation, on surgical and diagnostic procedures integral to practicing medicine.

With your subscription you are entitled to free access to the handheld version of FIRSTConsult, available to download on either Palm or Pocket PC.

AAFP members can register for a free 30-day trial of FIRSTConsult and receive a 25% discount on the regular subscription rate. (Non-members do not receive a discount, but they can also receive a free 30-day trial.) AAFP members who are already FIRSTConsult subscribers can receive a 25% discount the next time they renew their subscription.
