Rural FP Statistics/Demographics

A Definition of Rural

For purposes of conducting analysis of rural family physicians and their practices, the AAFP uses the Rural-Urban Continuum Codes as a proxy for rural geographical areas. Although the population determinants on which the data is based is subject to change over time, this method was selected as it offers a standardized and generally-accepted method for identifying rural areas.
