Health Care Research and Quality

Agency for Health Care Research and Quality Appropriations

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is charged with improving the quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of health care for all Americans. Its role is particularly important with its strong emphasis on patient-centered outcomes research. AHRQ must continue to have adequate resources to pursue these goals.

National Institutes of Health Appropriations

As the principle federal agency for conducting and promoting medical and behavioral research, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) leads and supports both basic science and translational research to extend healthy life and reduce the burdens of illness and disability. The annual budget of the NIH, which exceeds $28 billion, funds the work of nearly 6,000 scientists on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland, and more than 325,000 researchers in every state and around the world.
