Title VII & Health Professions Training Grants
The Affordable Care Act reauthorizes and expands the physician workforce programs authorized under Title VII of the Public Health Service Act in part to encourage the training of more family physicians. The Primary Care Training and Enhancement and the Integrative Academic Administrative Units Grants were reauthorized to support family medicine training. Two innovative Title VII programs were also authorized by the ACA. The Teaching Health Centers Development Grants will increase primary care physician training capacity by training primary care residents in non-hospital settings where most primary care is delivered, and the Rural Physicians Training Grants are intended to help medical schools to recruit and train students to practice medicine in underserved rural communities.
