AAFP Public Statements
Public statements on controversial issues should be issued in the name of the president or chair of the Board of Directors of the Academy. Policy has been established that the AAFP president is the Academy's official spokesman. Officers and directors should not make public statements on controversial issues as individuals because regardless of intent they are identified with and attributed to the Academy. Therefore, Board members are to refrain from making public statements on controversial issues not related to the official position of the Academy. (B1961) (2008)
