Medicare Reform
The American Academy of Family Physicians is gravely concerned about the viability, fairness, and workability of the current Medicare program. The Academy believes that there is a need for continual improvement in the structure, administration, and quality of the Medicare program. Such improvement is needed to keep pace with advances in the practice of medicine, changes in the demographics of the Medicare population, and other developments in the health care system. Accordingly, the Academy supports efforts to improve Medicare that are consistent with the Academy's principles for extending basic health care coverage to all people in the United States.
