The AAFP sponsors certain procedural skills' courses which by design, scope and/or duration include both cognitive and skills testing. Physicians performing satisfactorily on the cognitive and skills testing will be awarded a certificate indicating readiness to be preceptored/proctored.
The AAFP recommends that hospitals and health care organizations assign preceptors/proctors to family physicians who have been granted an AAFP preceptoring/ proctoring readiness certificate. These preceptors/proctors should, if possible, be family physicians with clinical privileges in the procedure(s) being sought. (1994) (2011 COD)
